Amalfi Coast: Nerano

The beautiful Amalfi Coast is no secret destination and if you have the time to visit Italy and spend some time in this area, you absolutely must! But, if you’re on a budget like I was, staying in Positano isn’t exactly easy to do. Positano is extremely beautiful and is undoubtedly the most recognizable spot on the Amalfi Coast. There are many shops, restaurants, hotels and people constantly running through this town built meticulously down a mountain. But, this is certainly not the only beautiful destination on the Coast.

When I traveled to the Amalfi Coast, I booked an Airbnb in the quaint, insanely picturesque town of Nerano. This town has way less activity than Positano, but the quietness and beauty make this escape uncomparable—and more affordable. This is a photo of the view from the Airbnb that I stayed in:

Better yet, my friends and I planned a day trip to Positano and it worked seamlessly. We scheduled an hour taxi ride over and planned a private boat trip that took us all along the coast, to Capri and then conveniently dropped us back off dock in Nerano where we could easily walk back up to our apartment.

Not only is this city beautiful and nearby Positano, but it has its own signature cuisine and even two restaurants with Michelin Stars.  And since this town is much smaller than others, you rarely can’t get into a restaurant without a wait and you are greeted warmly by every local—a rarity in any European city. Nerano is definitely a hidden gem and it won’t break your bank like other spots along the Italian coast. If you ever get a chance, I highly recommened staying in this incredible city!

  1. This place looks incredible! I've always wanted to travel to Italy, but like you, I am on a tight budget. Your strategy booking an Airbnb in Nerano and planning a day in Positano definitely seems like the way to go. If I ever end up over there, I will keep that in mind. Overall I love the blog--I think it's a great idea to share not only your travel experiences but your method of planning your travel as well.

  2. I've never used an Airbnb booking in another country but they look very quaint. With how crazy the world has been, I think I have always been kind of nervous because it doesn't have as much security as a hotel. I wonder if that method of accommodations will make the price of hotels go down. Your trip looks absolutely amazing!

  3. That looks so fun! I have never used Airbnb, but it is such an amazing economically choice. And it is cool to get to stay with locals from the place that you are visiting. It seemed like you had a great trip!

  4. Due to the fact that I have never been to Europe, I have many locations that I want to explore when I have the opportunity to cross the pond. After reading your post, it looks like I have another location on my list that I must visit! It seems much more appetizing compared to the busier city of Positano, as it offers a more peaceful and zen vibe. As I plan out a future trip, I wish this smaller city of Nerano would market itself a little better online because if it were not for you posting this, I probably would have missed this hidden gem!

  5. Italy is one of my favorite countries, I studied abroad there and everywhere is so beautiful. Your trip looked amazing, I have never been to the coast but would love to! I never thought about searching for air bnbs to stay in but that's such a great idea. It definitely seems like the cheapest and easiest way to visit.

  6. I absolutely love the Amalfi Coast! I studied abroad last Fall and I booked a weekend trip to the Amalfi Coast through a student travel company called Bus2alps. I had a great experience with the company because my trip was so short and they helped move me along to see plenty of different cities and do a ton of different activities. I am pretty jealous that you got to design your own trip and stay in an airbnb... if I go back that is definitely the way I want to do it. Your view and experience sounds incredible and it makes me want to go back right now! Thanks so much for sharing and I'm so glad you loved it so much too!
