Restaurant Special! Surf House: Barcelona, Spain

Image
Even though this blog is mainly about sites and not so much about food, I felt it was important to do a post dedicated to one of my favorite restaurants in Barcelona for when I was feeling a little homesick. Though I do love Spanish tapas and traditional Catalan food, occasionally I needed some American cuisine and Surf House was the place to go. This restaurant was opened by a Californian-turned-Spaniard and he has created a menu and an atmosphere I have never experienced before, even in the States. In fact, in the current social media state, it is very common to Instagram your food before you eat it. It is as if this restaurant plans for that and arranges its food perfectly. This leads to better recognition and more customers who are dying to try the immaculate food they see on their feeds. Amalfi Coast: Nerano

Image
The beautiful Amalfi Coast is no secret destination and if you have the time to visit Italy and spend some time in this area, you absolutely must! But, if you’re on a budget like I was, staying in Positano isn’t exactly easy to do. Positano is extremely beautiful and is undoubtedly the most recognizable spot on the Amalfi Coast. There are many shops, restaurants, hotels and people constantly running through this town built meticulously down a mountain. But, this is certainly not the only beautiful destination on the Coast. When I traveled to the Amalfi Coast, I booked an Airbnb in the quaint, insanely picturesque town of Nerano. This town has way less activity than Positano, but the quietness and beauty make this escape uncomparable—and more affordable. This is a photo of the view from the Airbnb that I stayed in: Better yet, my friends and I planned a day trip to Positano and it worked seamlessly. We scheduled an hour taxi ride over and planned a private boat trip that too...

Amsterdam, Netherlands: Anne Frank House

Image
Amsterdam is definitely known to be a party city as the laws are a bit more lenient than what we’re used to in the United States-- but it is also a city packed with history! That being said, I think it’s extremely important to experience a city with a balance of what it has to offer. Anne Frank, the post-mortem famous teenage diarist, was in hiding in Amsterdam during the Holocaust and the house was transformed into a museum. The house itself is unfurnished, as that’s what her father, the sole survivor of the family during the holocaust, wanted. He believed it would enable people to be able to use their imagination even further. But, each room had a miniature diorama that displayed what the room would have looked like furnished. Throughout the house the rooms specified what they used to be, who lived—or hid—in the rooms and quotes from Anne’s journal were posted. This experiece was highly emotional for everyone, regardless of religious heritage. For a self-guided museum in a sma...
